Abiqua is more than a school for children; it
is a community for families. Family involvement is what sets
Abiqua School apart from all other schools.
Abiqua is committed to strengthening parent involvement and
community building. Every year, our goal is 100% family
involvement. In order to include families as thoughtful and
active partners in making school decisions, we want your
participation and your input.
Each Abiqua family is asked to help us sustain the energy and
excitement that makes Abiqua special by signing the
Parent
Involvement Pledge.
Abiqua is your school. It is what you make of it. Make it
meaningful! Don’t wait to be asked. Pitch in whenever and
wherever you see the need. Check out the Volunteer Handbook for
ideas.
Get connected and get involved. When Abiqua celebrates its 20th,
25th, 50th… anniversary, what will be your child’s class legacy?
A group of visionary and dedicated parents founded Abiqua.
Similarly, enthusiastic and devoted parents have continued a
strong tradition of active parent involvement. When parents,
grandparents and other family members share their ideas,
knowledge and talents, they enrich Abiqua and play a valuable
role in every student’s success.
There are endless ways to get involved at Abiqua. Parents help
in classrooms; serve on committees; share skills and interests
with students; raise money for the school; help students with
projects; and contribute time, energy and resources at events
throughout the school year. Parents have fun together as they
help at these events and build an extraordinary community.
Volunteering at Abiqua is a great way to get to know the
faculty, staff and your children’s classmates. You’ll see the
school in action and get a glimpse of the inner workings of the
school. You’ll also get to know the parents of your children’s
classmates. These connections and friendships will deepen your
Abiqua experience.
Without exception, every year during volunteer sign-up, the
Teachers Appreciation Committee overflows with names of parents
who want to be a part of this group. Abiqua has an amazing group
of teachers, and it’s no surprise that parents want to do
everything we can to thank and support them.
Let us suggest that every committee at Abiqua is a Teachers
Appreciation Committee. Every volunteer opportunity at Abiqua,
from chaperoning fieldtrips to cleanup crew after events, is a
way of saying to our teachers and administration, “We appreciate
the wonderful, essential, hard work that you do. Thank you. We
want to do everything we can to support you and give you all the
resources that you need to help our children thrive.” When you
sign up to be on the Grounds/Facilities Committee, you are
helping to create a safe, beautiful environment for teaching and
learning. When you sign up to wash water bottles or manage book
orders you are saying, “You do so much. You go above and beyond.
Let me take care of the housekeeping details so you can focus on
teaching.”
When you play a part in any Abiqua fundraising activities, when
you make a gift, large or small, you are saying, “Let me do my
part to ensure that our teachers have the resources and peace of
mind they need to do their magic. Let me show my appreciation
for Abiqua by helping to make it financially secure.” Keep these
thoughts in mind when you consider your role at Abiqua.
Whatever you decide to do, thank you for being an important part
of Abiqua.
Your Volunteer Coordinator,
Elana Fedor
